Wednesday, 11/29 - Tuesday, 12/12: Graph Algorithms, The Math Exploration, & Review for Interim Assessment

Post date: Nov 28, 2017 6:34:24 PM

In this first part of December, we'll be learning about algorithms on graphs. We'll also be peer editing our Math Explorations. Finally, we'll be reviewing for our Interim Assessment.

Tuesday, 12/5 - Ms. Teslik is joining our class to do a workshop for us about emailing and digital communication, with a focus on professors and other adults in college.

The Math Exploration

Monday, 12/4 - A Draft of your Math Exploration is due in class, printed out. We are swapping drafts with our peers to get feedback, primarily on readability. Here are the slides from class. Here are the blank graphic organizers we used to peer edit. Your HW is to revise your Exploration.

Wednesday, 12/6 - we are continuing the process of peer editing. Here are the slides from class. Here is the blank calendar we used to do our planning. Your HW is to revise your Exploration.

First Draft for Magister Review - your next deadline for the Math Exploration is a near-complete draft on which you would like comments from Mr. Lao. The more complete the draft is, the more nuanced feedback Mr. Lao can give you that is actionable and rooted in the rubric. This is due at 11:59 PM on Friday, December 22nd uploaded to ManageBac (which will automatically filter through TurnItIn). If this deadline will give you undue stress, please see Mr. Lao individually to work something out.

Graph Algorithms

Wednesday, 11/29 - we learned Kruskal's algorithm for finding the minimum weight spanning tree on a graph. Here are the slides from class and here is the worksheet from class. Your HW is in your new textbook and also printed for you in the worksheet from class: p. 104 (Ex. 7B) #1c, 2c, 3, 5, 7.

Thursday, 11/30 - we learned Dijkstra's algorithm for finding the shortest path between two points on a graph. Here are the slides from class and here is the worksheet from class. Your HW is in your new textbook and also printed for you in the worksheet from class: p. 110 (Ex. 7C) #1b(i), 1c(i), 3a(i), 5, 6.

Friday, 12/1 - we are doing problems to practice both Kruskal's algorithm and Dijkstra's algorithm. Here are the problems from class. Your HW is to work on your Math Exploration, a draft of which is due on Monday for our peer editing process.

Thursday, 12/7 - We learned about the Travelling Salesman Problem and finding the minimum weight path to visit all vertices and return to the start. Here are the slides from class and here is the worksheet from class. For HW, please prepare for your IA and work on your Math Exploration.

Friday, 12/8 - We are studying the Chinese Postman Problem and finding a minimum weight path to travel all edges and return to the start. Here are the slides from class and here is the worksheet from class. For HW, please prepare for your IA and work on your Math Exploration.

Monday, 12/11 - We did problems to practice the algorithm involved in solving the Travelling Salesman Problem and the Chinese Postman Problem. Here are the problems from class. For HW, please prepare for your IA and work on your Math Exploration.

Review for Interim Assessment

Tuesday, 12/12 - we are reviewing for our Interim Assessment in math, which will cover the topics of Complex Numbers, Integral Calculus, and Graph Theory. Your Math IA is at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 13th. Here are the new practice problems that you received. Here are the solutions to those practice problems (which you did not get a printed copy of because it was too much paper). Here are the topics that are going to be on the IA.
