2/12 - 3/6: Geometry and Right Triangles

We're studying the geometry and trigonometry of plane figures, particularly circles and right triangles, and of 3D solids.

Wed, 2/12 - we learned about the arc length of a circle and the area of a sector of a circle. Here are the slides form class and here is the worksheet from class which includes your HW.

Thurs. 2/13 & Fri, 2/14 - we are using and reasoning about the volume and surface area of 3D solids. Here are the slides from class and here is the worksheet from class, which includes your HW.

Happy Mid-Winter Recess!

Mon, 2/24 - we reminded ourselves of right triangle trigonometry and the sine, cosine, and tangent ratios in right triangles. Here are the slides from class. And here are the problems we tried in class in addition to your HW problems.

Tues, 2/25 - we used our knowledge of right triangles to help us in other planar geometric figures that don't immediately seem like right triangles exist. Here are the slides from class and here are the problems we tried in class including your HW problems.

Wed, 2/26 - we used our knowledge of right triangles to help us in contextual word problems, particularly those involving angles of elevation and angles of depression. Here are the slides from class and here are the problems we tried in class including your HW problems. We also talked briefly about what an Extended Essay in Mathematics might look like - please see Mr. Lao if you're seriously interested in writing a Math EE.

Thurs, 2/27 - we found the angle between a line and a plane. Here are the slides from class and here are the problems from class, including your HW #3 on the back.

Fri, 2/28 - we used points plotted in 3D. Here are the slides from class and here are your HW problems.

Mon, 3/2 - we used 3D coordinates to help us reason about right triangles in 3D. Here are the problems we worked on in class and finished for HW. You have an exam on surface area, volume, and right triangles coming up on Friday, 3/6.

Tues, 3/3 - we practiced surface area, volume, and right triangle problems in preparation for our exam on Friday 3/6 with these problems, not due for HW.

Wed, 3/4 - you're taking the SAT. Good luck!

Thurs, 3/5 - we learned a new way to find the area of a triangle, one that doesn't rely upon an altitude, which is not always given to us. Here are the slides from class and here is your HW. This topic is not on your exam, which is tomorrow.

Fri, 3/6 - you have an exam on surface area, volume, and right triangles.
