Thursday, 11/16 - Monday, 12/4: Applying Derivatives to Curve Behavior

Post date: Nov 15, 2017 11:54:35 PM

We are now going to use derivatives and apply them to tell us about the shape and behavior of a function's graph.

Thursday, 11/16 - we looked at "stationary points" of functions and how we can find them. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is Ex. 11.3 #2, 5, 6, 7.

Friday, 11/17 - we continued to practice finding stationary points on functions. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is to work on your Math Exploration.

Monday, 11/20 - we used a function's second derivative to tell us about the function's concavity and inflection points. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is Page 382 (Ex. 11.3) #15, 16, 18, 19.

Tuesday, 11/21 - we continued practicing using the first derivative and second derivative to inform us about the curves of functions. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 381 (Ex. 11.3) #11 a-c.

Wednesday, 11/22 - we continued practicing graphing accurate drawings of functions using information from the first and the second derivatives. Here are the slides from class. Here is the worksheet from class.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Monday, 11/27 - we interpreted the graph of a derivative function (without its corresponding equation) to tell us information about the original function. Here is the worksheet from class. Your HW is p. 388 (Ch. 11 Practice Questions) #8 and #10.

Tuesday, 11/28 - we made more interpretations about the graph of a function based on the graph of its derivative. Here are the slides from class.

Wednesday, 11/29 - we have IPS on interpreting sign diagrams and drawing functions without knowing their equations.

Thursday, 11/30 - we reviewed your IPS and did practice problems to prepare for our exam, which is on Monday, which is on using the derivative and second derivative and the sign diagrams of each to analyze information about the original function. Here are the practice problems from class.

Friday, 12/1 - we started a new topic and saw how to decompose functions. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is to study for your Exam on Monday, which is on using the derivative and second derivative and the sign diagrams of each to analyze information about the original function.

Monday, 12/4 - you have an exam, which is on using the derivative and second derivative and the sign diagrams of each to analyze information about the original function. Your HW is to work on your Math Exporation - a draft is due, printed out, in class on Wednesday.
