Happy New Year!

We're starting off the year with a review of exponential functions and logarithmic functions. There's no new content in IB math compared to what you learned last year. The difference will be the depth at which you can apply the concepts and the amount of algebraic working required. Here is a summary of exponentials and logarithms.

If you have any feedback for the school about the process of picking your IB classes from last year so that we can revise and improve the process for this year's sophomores, please fill out this anonymous survey. Feedback can be things like "I think the process was informative" or "I wish I knew more about Spanish before I chose to take Visual Arts instead" or things like that. We're interested in feedback about the process of choosing your elective and your math course, not about the courses themselves. This survey is optional and is for juniors only: http://bit.ly/IBChoiceReflection.

Monday, 1/4 - we reviewed key ideas as to why we use exponential functions and why we use logarithms. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 243 (Practice Questions) #1, 2, 4, 12, 13.

Tuesday, 1/5 - 1 we did practice problems involving word problems. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 243 (Practice Questions) #10, 16 (GDC), 20, 24, 25.

Wednesday, 1/6 - we solved equations involving using substitution or log properties. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 243 (Practice Questions) #8b, 9, 11, 15 (GDC), 19, 22.

Thursday, 1/7 - we solved equations involving using change of base. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 243 (Practice Questions) #8a, 14 (GDC), 17, 21, 23 (GDC).

Friday, 1/8 - we did mixed review problems. Here are the slides from class. Here are the solutions to all the HW problems from this week. Here are some more practice problems, with answers on the back.

Monday, 1/11 - we have a quiz with IB HL style exponents, logarithms, exponential functions, logarithmic functions, and exponential/logarithmic equations problems.
