5/10 - 5/29: Derivative Techniques & Spring Interim Assessment
Now that we know what a derivative is and how they tell us about shapes of simple functions, we're going to study the derivative rules for more sophisticated functions.
Friday, 5/10 - we used derivative formulae for special functions. Here is a sheet of derivative formula. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 728 (Ex. 15.2) #2a, 3, 7, 11 and p. 743 (Ex. 15.3) #42.
Monday, 5/13 - we found derivatives of composite functions using the chain rule. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 715 (Ex. 15.1) #1abdeghjk, 5.
Tuesday, 5/14 - we practiced finding derivatives of composite functions using the chain rule. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 728 (Ex. 15.2) #1bcfgjkl, 2c.
Wednesday, 5/15 - you had a classwide assembly, and during the remainder of our class, we practied for our quiz.
Thursday, 5/16 - you have a quiz on curve sketching, which is using the first and second derivative to identify information about the shape of the original function.
Friday, 5/17 - we found derivatives of products and quotients of functions. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 715 (Ex. 15.1) #1cfim and p. 728 (Ex. 15.2) #1adhi.
Monday, 5/20 - we practice finding derivatives using the product and quotient rules. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 715 (Ex. 15.1) #6, 8 and p. 728 (Ex. 15.2) ?#8, optional challenge #14.
Tuesday, 5/21 - we found derivatives of implicitly defined curves. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p.743 (Ex. 15.3) #2, 12, 14, 18, optional challenge #19.
Wednesday, 5/22 - we practiced finding all kinds of derivatives. Here are the slides from class. No HW for Founders' Day!
Thursday, 5/23 - it's Founders' Day and the TBLS Carnival!
Friday, 5/24 - we reviewed using all kinds of derivatives. We worked on this worksheet, and specifically focused on Review Set 18A #3, 12; Review Set 18C #3, 10; Review Set 19A #4; Exercise 15.3 #36, 44.
Tuesday, 5/28 - we're reviewing for our Spring Interim Assessment, which is on Wednesday at 8AM. Here are some slides with some testing information. The exam is completely nonGDC. Here are some extra problems to review that we saw in class and here are the markschemes to those problems.
Here are some useful practice problems from previous resources I've given to you:
- Practicing the chain, product, quotient rules and implicit differentiation
- Curve Sketching: Chapter 13 Practice Questions (p. 620) #2, 5, 8, 10, 13, 17, 32, 33, 37 and Chapter 15 Practice Questions (p. 762) #1, 12, 16, 71
- Vector equations of lines and vector equations of planes mixed practice and just vector equations of lines practice
- Angles between planes and angles between lines and planes
- Intersection between a line and a plane.
- Line of intersection of two planes
- Parallel/skew/intersecting/coincident lines
Wednesday, 5/29 - you have your Spring semester math Interim Assessment.
