We worked with the definition of the derivative and looked at connections between the derivative and its function this week.

Here is the packet of Introduction to Differential Calculus classwork notes and homework sheets. We will be using this for the next week or so.

We will have a Calculus Exam on Tuesday 5/13/14.

Here's what we're doing this week:

  • On Monday 5/5, we learned the definition of the derivative (Worksheet 8-9) and used the definition to find a faster way to get the derivative of several simple functions. You are doing Worksheet 8-9 for homework. Here are the slides from class.
  • On Tuesday 5/6, we continued working with the definition of the derivative (Worksheet 8-10) to find the derivatives of simple functions without using our tedious charts. You are doing Worksheet 8-10 for HW. Here are the slides from class.
  • On Wednesday, 5/7 we connected the graph of a derivative with the graph of its function (Worksheet 8-11) and talked about functions increasing/decreasing/being stationary and connecting that to derivatives being positive/negative/zero. Here are the slides from class. You are doing 8-11 for HW.
  • On Thursday, 5/8 we reviewed your homework from the previous night. Your HW is 8-12. We will review starting tomorrow.
  • On Friday, 5/9 we reviewed your HW from the previous night (HW 8-12). We then reviewed in general for our exam on Tuesday. We will continue reviewing on Monday.
  • On Monday, 5/12 we reviewed for our exam tomorrow.
