Welcome back to school!

On this page, you will find resources for our class, IB Math HL for seniors. Please bookmark this site for future reference. Pay attention to any links you can click on, below. When you click on a link to find a document, the page will open in Google Docs. To download it, go to File, then click Download.

Here is a link to the class syllabus for the year that gives you information about the course as well as class norms and expectations.

Thursday, 9/8 - We looked at some complex numbers, briefly went over the syllabus, and talked about the course. Your HW is:

Friday, 9/9 - We were introduced to the Internal Assessment for Math HL, called the Math Exploration. We made and looked at "big-to-small" (or "general-to-specific") mind maps that might help us generate topics for our Explorations. Here are the slides from class.

Your HW is to create one "general-to-specific" mind map for a topic of your choosing, due Tuesday after the long weekend. The idea is not to get a definitive topic out of this exercise (but you might!) but instead to practice making mind maps to help you start thinking more critically about what kind of topic you'd like to write about and also to see the world in a mathematical light.

Monday, 9/12 - this was Eid al-Adha, and there was no public school in session.

Tuesday, 9/13 - we created and looked at "small-to-big" (or "specific-to-general") mind maps that might help us generate topics for our Exploration. Here are the slides from class.

Your HW is to create one "specific-to-general" mind map for a topic of your choosing, due tomorrow. I will collect this homework. Again, the idea is not to get a definitive topic out of this exercise, but to get more used to thinking mathematically.

Wednesday, 9/14 - we went over more details about how to get a viable topic for your Exploration and also looked at the rubric for this Internal Assessment. Your next mind map (your choice) will be due on Monday, 9/19. Here are the slides from class. You can find a list of 200 stimulus words for "specific-to-general" mind maps on page 928 of your textbook. You can find the rubric for the Internal Assessment starting on page 924.
