Fall Semester Interim Assessment Preparation Expos
Wednesday, 1/2 - Tuesday, 1/8 - We are working on Expo presentations go help us prepare for our upcoming Interim Assessments. Here are the Expo problems, and here are the groups for our Expos.
Trigonometry
Wednesday, 1/9 - we started our study of trigonometry by reviewing how we use radians, angles, the unit circle, and trigonometric ratios. Here are the slides from class. Here are the problems we practiced in class.
Thursday, 1/10 - we looked at certain geometry formulae using trigonometry (area of a triangle, arc length, and area of a sector). Here are the notes and problems from class.
Friday, 1/11 - we looked at why most trigonometric equations have multiple solutions. Here are the notes and problems from class.
Thursday, 1/17 & Friday, 1/18 - we looked at solving trigonometric equations with multiple solutions by using the Unit Circle. Here are the notes and problems from class.
Interim Assessment
Your Interim Assessment is on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 10:50 AM. It is a 2 hour exam. You will have access to a clean formula book for the exam. You should bring a GDC to the exam. Some questions will require the use of a GDC while others will prohibit the use of a GDC.
Your exam will cover all the topics from this year, including functions (domain, range, inverse, compositions, transformations, etc.), solving equations, solving inequalities, quadratics (factoring, graphing, discriminant, etc.), polynomials (division, factor theorem, remainder theorem, conjugate root theorem, fundamental theorem of algebra, sum and product of the roots, etc.), sequences and series (arithmetic and geometric), counting (permutations and combinations), the binomial theorem, mathematical induction, exponentials, and logarithms (no trigonometry).
First and foremost, the best problems to use to review and practice are OLD EXAM QUESTIONS, including questions I gave you on group quizzes. You can also try practice problems I've given to you where the number of marks is indicated, because those are also real past IB problems.
To review individual skills, you can redo any old HW problems. To practice more difficult, cumulative problems, you can try the Practice Questions found at the end of each chapter of your textbook.
Here are some resources that you already have that you can go back to and review:
- What are function transformations?
- Functions practice problems
- Quadratics and Polynomials summary
- Quadratics and polynomials practice problems
- What strategies can I use to solve equations?
- What strategies can I use to solve inequalities?
- Sequences and Series practice problems
- More sequences and series practice problems (old IB problems)
- Permutations and combinations practice problems (old IB problems)
- What is the Binomial Theorem?
- What is the process of Mathematical Induction?
- Binomial Theorem and Mathematical Induction practice problems
- Exponential and logarithm review problems, class slides, and practice quiz
- Expo review problems
