9/17 - 10/5: Functions

We are starting off the school year reviewing what we know about functions and extending that knowledge.

Monday, 9/17 - we reviewed what functions are and what their domains and ranges are. Here are the slides from class. Your HW, which I will check on Wednesday when I see you again, is Ex. 2.1 (p. 55) #10, 16-25 .

Tuesday, 9/18 - Mr. Lao was not in class, but you worked on learning about function composition. Here is the worksheet you worked on.

Wednesday, 9/19 - it is Yom Kippur and we have no school.

Thursday, 9/20 - we extended our knowledge about domains/ranges of functions and applied that knowledge to composite functions. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is Ex. 2.2 (p. 60) #3, 5, 7, 11, 14, 15, 21.

Friday, 9/21 - we reviewed and extended our knowledge of inverse functions. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is Ex. 2.3 (p. 68) #2, 5, 13, 21, 26, 38.

Monday, 9/24 & Tuesday, 9/25 - we're presenting our summer assignment Expos. We have Ashley's group, Madison's group, Luz's group, and Shemar's group going on Monday and then we have Alvi's group, Jeff's group, Johnny's group, and Addison's group going on Tuesday.

Wednesday, 9/26 - we're reviewing key features of our GDCs. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is on this worksheet, Ex. 2K #1a & 1b.

Thursday, 9/27 - we're exploring more features of our GDC. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is on the same worksheet as yesterday, but this time Ex. 2L #1-3.

Friday, 9/28 - we're reviewing function transformations and extending our knowledge to IB problems. Here are the slides from class. Here are the notes from class along with your HW which is Ex. 2.4 page 84 #19.

Monday, 10/1 - we composed functions using the absolute value function. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is Ex. 2.4 (p. 84) only parts b & c for #24-26.

Tuesday, 10/2 - we did practice problems for our upcoming exam. Here are the practice problems from class.

Wednesday, 10/3 - we began our study of algebraic functions, specifically polynomials, and looked at what polynomials are, went over synthetic substitution, and end behavior. Here are the slides from class. Here are the notes from class, and your HW, which is also in your textbook and is Ex. 3.1 (p. 98) #1, 6, 9, 10, 11.

Thursday, 10/4 - we have a group work assignment to learn about a special type of transformation called the reciprocal transformation. This is good practice for thinking about transformations, but this specific transformation will not be on your exam, which is tomorrow. Here are the notes and problems from class. Your HW is Ex. 2.4 (p. 84) only part a for #24-26.

Friday, 10/5 - you have your first exam in math class, on functions, domain, range, composition, inverse, transformations, GDC graphs.

Test Corrections - Everyone is eligible to increase their score on their first exam in math class (functions). Here are the instructions for the assignment and here is a blank copy of your exam. The assignment is due Monday, 10/22.
