Essential Questions:
1) What evidence exists for the Big Bang?
2) Why is this good evidence?
Today we started off class by reviewing your answers to the questions on page 30 of the lecture notebook entitled What Emerged from the Big Bang. We then took a quiz on the Big Bang. Then, we transitioned into seminar and seminar prep. Here is the Big History Seminar Rubric. Please note that it is slightly modified from rubrics you have seen before.
Ms. Skafish and Mr. Lao gave lectures on the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation and on redshift. These give us good evidence for the Big Bang. For more information about waves and the Doppler Effect, see this Khan Academy video. To refresh yourself and supplement the notes you took on these lectures, see also this video that animates the Big Bang and talks briefly about what it is, or this video that talks about light and redshift, or this video that talks about the afterglow of the Big Bang and the CMB.
I do apologize about MetroCards, and hope to get you them to you soon and will surely update you as I learn more about the situation. Ms. McCain, Ms. Ortiz, and Ms. Mautschke are working incredibly hard to get them for us from the DoE.
