*unfortunately, about a dozen of you do not yet have comments. I apologize. They'll be there soon. These students can have a small extension on the final draft. Their exact extended deadline will be posted on their draft in a comment.

First Draft for Magister Review - your next deadline for the Math Exploration is a near-complete draft on which you would like comments from Mr. Lao. The more complete the draft is, the more nuanced feedback Mr. Lao can give you that is actionable and rooted in the rubric. This is due at 11:59 PM on Friday, December 22nd uploaded to ManageBac (which will automatically filter through TurnItIn). If this deadline will give you undue stress, please see Mr. Lao individually to work something out.

Wednesday, 12/6 - we are continuing the process of peer editing. Here are the slides from class. Here is the blank calendar we used to do our planning. Your HW is to revise your Exploration.

Monday, 12/4 - A Draft of your Math Exploration is due in class, printed out. We are swapping drafts with our peers to get feedback, primarily on readability. Here are the slides from class. Here are the blank graphic organizers we used to peer edit. Your HW is to revise your Exploration.

First Draft for Peer Review - your next deadline for the Math Exploration is a draft you would like a peer to read to give you feedback on readability. Please bring a printed copy to class on Monday, December 4th. An on-time, printed, substantial draft will earn you a 20 point process grade.

Monday, 10/30 & Tuesday, 10/31 - all of your submitted topics have been read and processed and either approved with next steps or disapproved with notes about how to improve. Here is the spreadsheet of all of your submitted topics: goo.gl/4Hbk5B.

Here are the slides with details about topic approval and a timeline for you coming up. Here are the slides from the class where we looked at a bunch of sample Math Explorations.

Here is a timeline of upcoming deadlines for the Math Exploration:

Monday, 12/4 (about five weeks from now) a rough draft due so that your peers can read your work and give you readability feedback.

Friday, 12/22 (about three weeks afterwards) a near-final* draft due to your teacher so that he can provide detailed comments and feedback to incorporate into your final draft.

*near-final draft preferred because that way, your teacher can give you the most and the best feedback possible

End of February (some time after Mid-Winter Recess in February) your final draft will be due.

Here are the sample Math Explorations we read in class:

And once again, here is the Math Exploration rubric for Math HL, including some helpful hints and some links to help you write and format math equations and math type.

Mr. Lao is always available for individual conferencing about your Exploration. Just plan ahead to set up a specific appointment.

Submitting a Topic: Your HW is to, by 5PM on Monday 10/23, go to this Google Formand submit your idea for your topic for your Math Exploration: goo.gl/6tqMPY

Tuesday, 9/12 - we received general feedback on our mind maps and looked at the rubric for the Math Exploration for Math HL. Here are the slides from class. Your next mind map, of your choice, is due on Monday, 9/18. You will have one mind map of your choice due every Monday for the next few weeks.

Monday, 9/11 - we made and looked at "math-to-topic" mind maps that might help us generate topics for our Explorations. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is to create one "math-to-topic" mind map for a stimulus word of your choosing, due tomorrow to be collected.

Friday, 9/8 - We were introduced to the Internal Assessment for Math HL, called the Math Exploration. We made and looked at "topic-to-math" mind maps that might help us generate topics for our Explorations. Here are the slides from class.

Your HW is to create one "topic-to-math" mind map for a topic of your choosing, due Monday after the weekend. The idea is not to get a definitive topic out of this exercise (but you might!) but instead to practice making mind maps to help you start thinking more critically about what kind of topic you'd like to write about and also to see the world in a mathematical light.
