10/16 - 10/29: Curve Sketching

We're studying how we can use derivatives to analyze a function's behavior, specifically it's graphical behavior. Essentially, we're becoming human graphing calculators. We call what we're studying "curve sketching".

Math Exploration Topic Submission - please follow this link to submit your Math Exploration topic idea for approval. Submissions are due by 10PM on Tuesday, 10/30.

Tuesday, 10/16 - we are using the derivative to identify stationary points on a graph. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is Ex. 11.3 (p. 402) #2, 5, 6, 7. Please also submit a topic for your Math Exploration by 10PM on Tuesday, October 30th to this link.

Wednesday, 10/17 - we are using the derivative to identify stationary points and critical points on a graph. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is Ex. 11.3 (p. 402) #8-10, 13. Please also submit a topic for your Math Exploration by 10PM on Tuesday, October 30th to this link.

Thursday, 10/18 - we used the second derivative and identified the concavity of graphs. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is Ex. 11.3 (p. 402) #15, 16, 18, 19. Please also submit a topic for your Math Exploration by 10PM on Tuesday, October 30th to this link.

Friday, 10/19 - we continued to use the second derivative to inform us about a function's graph. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is Ex. 11.3 (p. 402) #11 a-c. Please also submit a topic for your Math Exploration by 10PM on Tuesday, October 30th to this link.

Monday, 10/22 - we combined all the ideas we learned about the derivative and the second derivative to accurately sketch a function's graph. Here are the slides from class. Here is the worksheet from class. Your HW is Ex. 11.3 (p. 402) #20, 23. Please also submit a topic for your Math Exploration by 10PM on Tuesday, October 30th to this link.

Tuesday, 10/23 - we analyzed how the graphs of derivative functions can tell us about the original function. Here are the slides from class. Here are the notes from class. Your HW is Ch. 11 Practice (p. 409) #8 and Ch. 13 Practice (p. 479) #15. Please also submit a topic for your Math Exploration by 10PM on Tuesday, October 30th to this link.

Wednesday, 10/24 and Thursday, 10/25 - we have an Independent Problem Solving assignment in class, which is open notes and open GDC, just not open partner. We'll spend two days on this assignment. Please also submit a topic for your Math Exploration by 10PM on Tuesday, October 30th to this link.

Friday, 10/26 - we reviewed our Independent Problem Solving assignment to help us study for our upcoming exam. We also did these practice problems to help us prepare for our exam. Please also submit a topic for your Math Exploration by 10PM on Tuesday, October 30th to this link.

Monday, 10/29 - you have your exam on curve sketching. Please also submit a topic for your Math Exploration by 10PM on Tuesday, October 30th to this link.
