We finished looking at quadratics and then looked at polynomials.

Monday, 10/19 - we looked at the sum and product of the roots of a quadratic. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 110 (Ex. 3.2) #39, 40ace, 43, 44.

Tuesday, 10/20 - we learned the division algorithm for polynomials. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 124 (Ex. 3.3) #1, 4-6, 9, 11.

Wednesday, 10/21 - we learned about The Remainder Theorem and synthetic division. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 124 (Ex. 3.3) #2, 3, 10, 13, 28, 29.

Thursday, 10/22 - we learned about the Factor Theorem of polynomials. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 124 (Ex. 3.3) #19, 20, 30, 33, 36.

Friday, 10/23 - we looked at The Fundamental Theorem of Algebra and the conjugate zeroes of polynomials. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 124 (Ex. 3.3) #21, 23, 24, 26, 27.

Monday, 10/26 - we looked at the sum and product of the roots of polynomials. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is p. 124 (Ex. 3.3) #37-39.

Tuesday, 10/27 - This is a group practice day for a process grade. We'll work in our groups to do HL problems that will also help us study for our exam. Here is a summary of all the polynomial facts and theorems we've learned. Your HW due Friday is p. 149 (Practice Questions) #1, 3, 4, 5, 9, 11-14, 17-19, 21; p. 125 (Ex. 3.3) #41. Since this homework is longer and you have a longer time to do it and since we're also using class time for you to complete it, it'll be worth an 8 point process grade instead of the normal 2 point homework grade.

Wednesday, 10/28 - This is an individual practice day to prepare for our exam. We are working on the HW problems due Friday (see above).

Thursday, 10/29 - We'll have a full period exam about quadratics and polynomials.

Here are the topics for your exam:

Quadratics:

  • general form, vertex form, factored form, completing the square, factoring, axis of symmetry, vertex, minimum/maximum value, roots, quadratic formula, discriminant & nature of roots, sum and product of roots

Polynomials:

  • long division (synthetic division), The Remainder Theorem, The Factor Theorem, The Fundamental Theorem of Algebra, conjugate roots, sum and product of roots
