Today we reviewed dilations and why horizontal dilations are so different from vertical dilations. We did a summary of the transformations we've seen so far. We started looking at the vertex form of the quadratic equation (that draws on our knowledge of transformations).

There will be a short quiz tomorrow on transformations.

Here are the marked slides from class.

Announcements from class today:

  • Respect the things I do for you. I make laminated table numbers to structure our class. If you're writing on them and peeling them, you must be bored in class. I don't have to put things on this website or give the opportunity for test corrections if you're bored in class and don't respect the things I do for you.
  • Midterm grades are going out soon. We've had several homework grades and only one quiz, so the bulk of the mark you see on your midterm for this class is the quiz. Don't panic. There will be plenty of time for more marks this term: more homework, more quizzes, expos, and other process (collaboration) grades. So, keep that in mind when you receive your midterm for this class.
  • If you got less than a C (less than 21 out of 30) on the first quiz, you can log on to Delta Math and do the problems there for Credit Recovery to bump up your grade to a C. Credit Recovery for the first quiz is due on Monday October 8, 2012 at 8 AM.
