Friday, 12/1 - Tuesday, 12/12: The Chain Rule, The Math Exploration, and Review for Interim Assessment

Post date: Nov 28, 2017 6:29:03 PM

In December, we're learning about a new way to find derivatives, called the chain rule. We're also peer editing our Math Explorations. We also are going to review for our Interim Assessment in math.

Tuesday, 12/5 - Ms. Teslik is joining our class to do a workshop for us about emailing and digital communication, with a focus on professors and other adults in college.

The Math Exploration

Wednesday, 12/6 - A Draft of your Math Exploration is due in class, printed out. We are swapping drafts with our peers to get feedback, primarily on readability. Here are the slides from class. Here are the blank graphic organizers we used to peer edit. Your HW is to revise your Exploration.

Thursday, 12/7 - we are continuing the process of peer editing. Here are the slides from class. Here is the blank calendar we used to do our planning. Your HW is to revise your Exploration.

First Draft for Magister Review - your next deadline for the Math Exploration is a near-complete draft on which you would like comments from Mr. Lao. The more complete the draft is, the more nuanced feedback Mr. Lao can give you that is actionable and rooted in the rubric. This is due at 11:59 PM on Friday, December 22nd uploaded to ManageBac (which will automatically filter through TurnItIn). If this deadline will give you undue stress, please see Mr. Lao individually to work something out.

The Chain Rule

Friday, 12/1 - we started a new topic and saw how to decompose functions. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is to study for your Exam on Monday, which is on using the derivative and second derivative and the sign diagrams of each to analyze information about the original function.

Friday, 12/8 - we learned the chain rule for finding derivatives. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is Exercise 13.2 #1 a,b,e,j,k.

Monday, 12/11 - we applied the chain rule for finding derivatives. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is Exercise 13.2 #2ab, 5, 6.

Review for Interim Assessment

Tuesday, 12/12 - we reviewed for our Math Interim Assessment, which will cover the topics of vectors and derivatives, including using the chain rule. Your Math IA is at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 13th. Here are the review problems & solutions you received printed out in class, covering all we've learned about vectors and about differential calculus. Here is a detailed list of topics.
