Reflective Self Portrait

For this reflective self portrait we had to take a picture of ourselves using something reflective like a mirror or window. I took this picture while in the car. I thought that the rear view mirror would make a good reflective surface. Making sure the picture would show me, no matter how small, I took the picture. While developing it I had to use a 2 filter because of how light the negative was. This lowered the contrast in the photo taking out most of the gray tones. Once the print was dry I decided to paint the bottom section with acrylic because it was blank and has no interesting point to it. I painted waves because I like the water and I swim a lot so it represents what I like to do.

The spacing in this photo is very unique especially with the different shapes involved. The car mirror takes up space along with the car in the background. The shapes create a unique negative space. There is no pattern or movement in the photo, but there is a contrast between the dark mirror and the light sky. This picture is a good example of informal balance because of the large and small shapes. Overall I feel this could've been stronger, but I am happy with how it turned out.
