This year was my first year of taking photography. Last semester I took photography 1 and was taught the basics of both digital and film photography. This semester I improved greatly in both topics of photography. If you compare my work from this semester to last semester's, you will see a lot more detail and creativity included in my most recent works. I liked film photography more than digital in both semesters and I think it showed in my work. During digital photography in quarter 3 I tended to wait until the last minute and take common boring photos from time to time. Then I tried to stay on top of things in quarter 4 during film photography. This produced results of more detailed and better overall photos in film photography. I still have some favorite photos in my digital quarter despite being behind in that quarter.
I like seeing the growth in my photos from rushed picture to well thought out photo. You also see growth in my portfolio pieces that go with each individual photo. Over time I saw them grow in length and in explanation of my photos. This was able to happen because I put more effort into the pictures I was taking, therefore I had more to write about. The one challenge I did have throughout the entire semester was keeping up with my digital portfolios and getting them in on time. I usually saved these for last because I had other school work in other classes that I put ahead of this work. As a result my graded slipped and I had to work harder in order to get it up to where it is now. Despite this set back I am really proud of the work that I produced this semester. I got to use some of the techniques that we were taught in film photography to create even more interesting prints. All my photos illustrate my strengths in different ways. Some do it just by the composition and arrangement of the subject(s) in the photo. Others it's about the techniquesI used to create or enhance the final picture.
