Paper Reflection Sculpture

For this project we were tasked with building a 3D sculpture out of paper. The challenge was that once we chose our piece of paper, we could only use that one piece and no more. My sculpture is an abstract sculpture displaying how the first semester went for me in one word. My word was chaotic because I had a lot going on and new challenges. I choose a blue poster donated to the school from the art museum because I knew the darker blue would get my message across better. The structure of the sculpture was random and I made it up along the way. I used Elmer's glue as an adhesive to hold everything together.

The composition rule in my sculpture is informal balance. I wanted there to be a mirror effect so that if you look down the middle of the sculpture then it would seem that the two sides were similar in shape. But looking from above you see that they are actually very different in size and shape. When I first started the sculpture I used the darker sections from the bottom of the poster, but then I went back and picked out the even darker sections in the poster and cover the sculpture to make it darker.

This sculpture was meant to show how I felt over the first semester of school. I feel I communicated that well based upon what I chose for my word. I do like the way my sculpture came out. If I were to change anything I would like to add more detail.
