mixed media drawing

This drawing is of two polaroids that I took while in West Point. One is of a cadet in uniform and the other is of the sunset through the back of my car on the way home. My materials were ink and charcoal. We used the grid technique in order to focus on one square at a time. I used value to create depth and dimension in my piece. I also used a lot of shape to create the larger picture. In this drawing I used selective focus by making the darker lines stand out from the lighter background. First I drew certain things with pencil first and then went over them in ink to get the right shading and and value. I had taken both of these photos myself on a little polaroid that I have. The man's shadow is disproportionate to his body and I would've liked to find a way to have fixed it.
