Facial Features Study

During this assignment we were tasked with cutting out different facial features from magazines and then drawing those features again underneath those pieces of magazines. I used graphite for all of my drawings and a blending it with a tool for the shading. The idea is to copy the image from the magazines onto the paper and use the right shading techniques. There was a lot of line, value, and contrast. The value was for the shading in my drawings and getting a range of dark to light in my pictures. Line was used in the basic outline of my features which I then went of with shading to make it look more realistic.

Most of my drawings show soft focus because of the shading involved. The shading fades the lines and blends them with other things in the picture which creates the feel of soft focus. Also many of the photos I chose used high key lighting and I transferred that into my drawings. I did have to redo many of my different drawings during this project because I felt it didn't match the photo. I had more trouble with the lips than any other features.

This was a study on facial features and shading which I really enjoyed and learned a lot from. I like using graphite and blending so this project was fun for me. I wish I had more time to finish this project and work on the last two drawings that I didn't get to finish.
