Concentration #1
Here Lies
2" x 2"
Watercolor, Ink Pen
Here lies a man.
Who once held my hand
as we walked the garden path.
This was long ago,
In a place I once called home.
Across the garden path.
To start or concentration we were tasked with creating an inquiry question to focus on for the remainder of the year. The question I want to study is "How can poetry enhance a piece of artwork?" I was inspired by my love for both art and writing. This would be the best way create original poetry and original art. For this project I created the my poem first and then sketched some ideas for my art piece that would go with it.
I started with three different sketches that went with the subject of my writing. I chose to do this piece because liked the composition better and knew it would fit well in a minacture paper. Once I had my measurements down, I drew out my design in pencil. Using watercolor I started with the background and did a light wash of black because I felt this piece should be more dark and mysterious. As I continued with the piece, I decided to darken the left upper corner to try and create a sense of depth and distinguish the sky from the headstone. I used brown to separate the grave from the rest of the grass. With an ink pen I outlined the headstone and the bones in order to emphasize them as the main point of the piece.
