Beautiful Oops

This painting is of a sunset where you can see the water along with the other side of the lake. For this painting I used ink as the landscape and water color paint as my water and sky because it would make filling in the small parts of the paper easier. There was an ink spot already on the paper so I worked with that and created the water and sky around it. I have always loved sunsets and sunrises so when I saw that I could transform this into a sunset i went all in. I ended up adding more ink to have a bigger landscape across the paper. I went for a contrast between warm and cool colors that were divided by the black ink and tried to incorporate movement in the water and the sky with my brush strokes. I used techniques such as a lower horizon line to give me more space for the colors in the sky and accentuate the colors. At first it was just one ink spot that I was thinking of as an island, but over time I wanted to add more because the one was getting lost in the colors and it would create more of a barrier between the warm and cool colors. I also added different colors from the warm and cool groups such as purple or red. The behind this is that someone is looking out over a lake and watching the sun as it sets behind the other side of the lake. I personally love anything involving the sky or water and this painting included both. If I were to change anything it would be to make my marks darker so when i put water over top, it would've been a richer color.
