For the color figure I decided to do a frog, but I wanted it to be more interesting so I focused only on the eye of the frog. I drew out my shapes and outlines that I was going to be using for the eye and the body of the frog. I went straight into painting withe acrylic paint and did the pupil and then the red iris around it. After that I colored in the frog a dark green and added some highlights with a lighter green. I didn't like the way it looked so I decided to add some more texture and color by dotting some brown, blue, yellow, and green on the frog. I then created the background by painting two tees behind the frog. Behind that I smeared green and brown paint with my finger to fill in the white space. After we critiqued I decided to go back to my painting and add more bright colors. With the paint markers I did lines of blue and yellow on the frog to give it some movement and in the eye I did red to match the color of the eye. In the pupil I did a line of black paint that id emphasized by some white highlights. In the trees I went abstract and made the creases of the bark blue on one tree and yellow on the other.
This project is all about color so I decided to make the main focus of the painting the bright read eye. then after I had layered the green of the body, I added blue and yellow contour lines for more color. I did this in the trees as well. There was also a time when the body of the frog was just green and I wanted to add texture to it. I did this by using brown, blue, and yellow paint and did spots all over the frog. This piece does show high horizon line because the frog's body takes up more than half of the paper, leaving a smaller space for the background.
In this painting I wish I used brighter colors more than I did. The neutral tones in the frog and the background dull the painting and make it less interesting.
