Branching off of the meaning of home, I continued to explore different ideas in the category. For this project I focused on a habitat being a home for animals. In Maine we have many forests and trees that act as homes for the creatures across the state. I used this as my idea for this project. Using watercolor I first painted the trees as the background of my piece. I wanted to add different animals to show the wide range of species we have in Maine. I painted a larger deer and then a smaller one showing a family connection in my piece. I then added two species of birds: the crow and the owl. These I placed on the right side of painting in order to try and balance the piece. Going back through I added grass and falling leaves with sharpie to put more detail in my painting.
Overall I feel my skill level is not shown through this painting. I feel it's basic and could be better. It possible that if I had used a different medium than watercolor, then I would have had better control of the outcome of the piece. This isn't one of my favorite paintings that I have made, but it is not the worst either. If I had paid more attention to detail and the accuracy of my animals the painting would have been better.
