You Can't Drink When You're Dead
10'x 4'
Acrylic and pen on canvas
This idea came to me immediately when I saw we were doing the Arrive Alive project. The thought was that a skeleton cannot hols any liquid because it is hollow. I knew that I wanted a cartoon esc style to this piece with simple bold lines. I also decided to do this piece vertically instead of horizontally in order to showcase the full skeleton. I started with a quick pencil sketch on the canvas to perfect the layout I wanted to have. Afterwards, I went over my sketch in pen which unfortunately smudged as I was erasing the pencil underneath. I went in with white acrylic paint to cover up all the fingerprints and streaks I had made and re-outlined the skeleton a couple times. When everything was dry I measured and sketch the text that I wanted on my painting. I also went over this in pen. In the background I decided to add a headstone as it went with the theme of my piece. On the headstone I wrote "drunk driver" in pen to connect with the Arrive Alive message.
