Identity

For my Identity project I went with something that has been talked about a lot lately and that is gun violence and gun control. The actual picture was from a march me and my friends went to and they decided to write the phrase "don't shoot" on our hands. Before we arrived to the area we took pictures of our hands. For one of the final picture I wanted to do more than just make a print of the whole picture so I started dripping the developer over the photo. This only develops the parts that are touched by the developer and adds to the composition. I made a full print in order to see what the photo would end up looking like. After I had the right aperature and exposure time, I went ahead and made the final one.

The final print has a lot of informal balance because of both the picture itself and the drip lines. The print has a wide range of value because of the dark background and the light skin tone of our hands with the sun shining on it. This also means that the photo showcases contrast between the extreme light and dark. The picture used had selective focus with the background being burry, yet our hands are in focus.
