#5

During my concentration I have done many works on paper and 2D projects. I decided to switch my material and try to add more range to my concentration. Using clay I started to build the walls of a house. This quickly turned out to be harder than expected as the walls came apart relatively quick. I therefore decided to focus my efforts solely on the roof of the house. I cut out the four piece of the roof and carefully stuck them together using water and tiny pieces of leftover clay. After everything felt securely attached, the roof looked blank so I decided to add a chimney in order to change the composition of my sculpture. I made a mini rectangle and cut out triangles from the bottom so it would easily fit on top of the roof. I unfortunately didn't like the way the chimney fit over the roof and decided to cover it by making logs across the chimney. Once everything was dry and fired, I painted the roof white and the log chimney brown. Again the white roof was very bare, so I used a crimson color and painted a brick pattern over all of the roof. To add more character I created pieces of moss out of sculpy and glued them to one side of the roof.

This project took longer than some of my paintings because of the process of drying and firing clay is more extensive than paint drying. I enjoyed changing my media for this project and wish I had more time in order to focus more on the quality of my workmanship and painting.
