Concentration #4

For my fourth project I decided to take a tiny twist with my concentration. I found keys in the storage closet in the art room and thought they would make a good medium. I knew I wanted to stay with skulls, but I didn't know what the theme behind it would be. An idea came to me and I printed out newspaper articles that pertained to domestic abuse. These I layered and glued onto a piece of foam board. While doing this I was also painting the keys white so I could use them for the outline of the skull. I also made bunches of keys and painted them black so I could us them for the eyes, nose, and mouth. At first I didn't know how I was going to put the keys on the foam board. Then Mrs. Medsker suggested to stab them into the board. I stuck with this idea because I liked it myself. I stuck the keys into the position of a skull through the articles and the board.

I wanted to overlap the space between the articles to represent how much of them there were like a large stack of paper. And with every concentration project I've done, the shape of the skull is important in my concentration. For the keys alone there is formal balance because it's the same on both sides if you split it down the middle. But the articles I arranged in a random order making it informal balance. This project wasn't as neat or tidy as some of my other ones, but I like the theme behind it.
