Breadth

Breadth is supposed to show a range off different approaches to a subject. For photography it shows different techniques or styles of photography throughout the semester. I chose 6 photos from each quarter, a total of 12, to represent my breadth. I chose each photo for a reason. Either they displayed a technique that I used or a style of photography that I used. For the digital picture it's mainly a mix. The first and third pictures show my use of photoshop and using selective color. The fourth image is a portrait of my friend. This style of photography is common and I liked the focus of this image. The fifth digital image was from our monochromatic project. It shows my use of different materials to create an image because I used a piece of colored plastic in order to make everything one color. Then the last digital picture was of unique lighting using a laser pointer. This project taught me how to reduce my shutter speed in order to create a new lighting for photos. Many of the photos from my film quarter show a technique that was taught to us on how to advance our prints and add more to the composition. Now the first print I chose from film is were we had to alter a negative in some way. I decided to burn the edges of mine until it folded. The second is what's called a cyanotype, which is light sensitive fabric and we exposed is with a negative on top to ingrain the print into it. Both the third and fourth prints from my film quarter show the technique of adding color to film through paint. On both of the final prints I painted over area that I wanted to be colored. In the fourth film picture there was a lot of little details that I wanted to be transferred to the print. In order to get them to show up better I taped three negatives onto one another. This aloud for the background to be lighter and still show the details. And finally on the last film print, instead of putting the whole paper in developer I dripped the developer onto the paper so it would only develop certain areas. In all this shows the wide range of techniques and styles I can now use to create different photos.
