Historical Print

With this project we had to research some famous artists and then choose a piece of art to recreate. For this I found the artist Gustav Klimt and really liked his artwork titled "The Kiss". I decided to recreate this using my two friends and a blanket. I had them pose in the same way as the painting and took a picture. Once I got it right, I developed it in the darkroom. After the print was developed and dry we were tasked with tinting the print in some way or another. Because Gustav worked so much with gold I decided to cover the blanket in gold paint as well as create patterns using different shapes and colors.

My main focus was definitely the color when adding the details. I used more gold than anything to represent the gold leaf and then added splashes of other colors around to bring more life to it. The paint also adds another layer of texture over the paper. This picture showcases rule of thirds because the people are only in two thirds of the photo.
