Dogs with Kicks

7"x 5"

Acrylic and pen on canvas

For this project I was having trouble creating designs and coming up with ideas. I went to my friends for help and asked them for ideas that I could turn into something. The two ideas that I decided to combine were "dogs" and "creatures with kicks". I used reference photos of my two dogs and sketched them out around the canvas. I decided to keep the dogs on separate plains of grass to try and create a depth in the painting. After I had painted the dogs, I went in and outlined them with pen. I also used the pen to add shading to certain areas of each dog. With these pieces painted I felt that I had a lot of empty space left in the top corner. I asked around and decide to draw a fire hydrant as it is closely related to dogs. I made sure the shoes were colors that would stand out against the color of the dogs and the grass. I enjoyed doing this piece as I like the style it ended up becoming. The pen seemed to animate the dogs a bit with the sketchiness of the lines.
