Independent Project

On this project we got to decide what we wanted to do as a final art project. I knew I liked acrylic and graphite as materials and only needed to know what my subject would be. I was looking through my old projects and came across the time capsule drawings. I remembered that I really liked doing the hands in one of the drawings. I decided to stick with the theme of hands holding one another and covered the background in different fruit. For my favorite one I cut out the canvas and glued a map of my home city to the back. I got to use graphite to sketch out the hands and do different shading then went over those sketches with acrylic paint and outlined the hands in sharpie. The hardest part was making sure the hands were proportionate which was a challenge in some of the pieces. The fingers and palms are smaller than the normal size of a hand. I thought it would be best not to paint the hands that were on the map background because I had been having trouble mixing colors and could never get the right shade therefore I didn't want to ruin the drawing.
