Concentration #8

ready. aim. fire.

8"x 8"

Graphite and Sharpie

The hunter becomes the hunted.

Stalked in the tall grass by someone new,

Eyes fixed to one point.

Ready.

The element of surprise,

an advantage one can't pass up.

Aim.

The kill spot,

a target one can't afford to miss.

Fire.

For this project I had the idea to write something more satirical with my poetry. I got the idea of having a moose hunt the human, which we do not see in this reality. I liked imagining how switching this scenario would look and how it would feel to no longer be the top of the food chain. I incorporated the phrase "ready, aim, fire" as it is commonly used on gun ranges. I started my artwork by looking at reference pictures of moose and guns in order to get an understanding of how I wanted my composition to look. Once I had the moose outlined in pencil, I took pictures of my hands to reference while drawing the fingers. The perspective of this piece is from the person getting shot by the moose. After everything was in pencil, I went in with a tortillion to add shading and depth to the moose, gun, and trees. With a pen I went and outlined everything again to make each object bolder.

I chose not to add color to this piece because I wanted to take a break and didn't feel it would have fit well with the concept. I also did this drawing on watercolor paper and didn't like the idea of watercolor on this piece.
