Small Waters
7"x 4"
sharpie pen and watercolor on Bristol
As the wind picked up,
The sailboat swayed back and forth.
Getting out to sea was easy,
but getting back was proving to be a problem.
He promised his wife he'd be home for dinner.
By the smell drifting from the shore,
he could tell he was late again.
This project took a lot of trial and error. I knew that I wanted to use pens and took inspiration from our earlier blind contour projects. I did no sketch for this project and went right in with the pens, therefore any mark I made was permanent. This proved to be challenging and many times I did things that I didn't like afterwards. I ended up starting on a new piece of paper with a new composition. This time I knew the style that I wanted and what I wanted the final piece to look like. My technique was to draw the outline of each section and then use the colors to fill in the remaining space. I used eccentric lines and swirls to create the style.
