Concentration #9

The Body

10"x 7"

watercolor, ink pen

The human body has many purposes.

It can be a beauty or an eyesore,

a delight or a disappointment.

Some are worthy of marble statues in the Louvre,

immortalized forever for the world to admire.

The rest are left to grow old,

get wrinkles and saggy skin.

For this project I wanted to try the process of painting over text. I wrote my poem on a google doc and then chose a font that would work with my poem. I wanted the font to be elegant, yet legible. I chose the font "Allura" because it was cursive, but wasn't too fancy to become illegible. I printed the poem on watercolor paper in order to be able to paint over it. I decided that because my poem is about the human body, that I would paint a torso over the text. To make the composition of the piece more complex I sketched the torso upside-down compared to the poem. As I started to paint with the watercolor over the text I realized that the ink was bleeding. I tried my best to cover up the bleeding with more watercolor, but it made spots darker than I would've liked.
