This semester was my first time taking a photography class and it has taught me a lot about what I like and what I don't like when it comes to taking pictures. The first quarter was digital photography and we learned the basics of photography and what makes a good photo. I learned different techniques for taking a photo and composition characteristics of different photos. All this we learned over time in different projects and taking multiple photos of the same composition rule. My favorite project in the digital unit was the extreme perspective project at the end of the quarter. I had learned a lot from the previous projects and I think that showed in the photos I took. We were focusing on different angles and perspectives while taking pictures around the outside of the school. The day was beautiful and I feel the sun provided good natural lighting, which helped the photos look better. In quarter two the class moved into film photography and I fell in love with it. The process of creating and developing the photos was something I had never known before, but it was very hands on and fun. My favorite project from the film unit was the leading lines project. My film didn't advance while I was taking the photos and the film got exposed in one place for multiple photos. The effect it created was really cool and I thought my enlarged print came out good in terms of contrast. My worst overall project was the silhouette lighting project. I saved it for the last minute and rushed it, not utilizing the different sources of lighting that I could. I think my work shows if I put effort and took time in thinking about my designs and it shows when I don't. This semester has been a good year for learning new photo techniques and becoming a better photographer.
