Slab Assignment

Looking a t Kenneth Baskin's work it is clear to see that her draws his inspiration from heavy machinery and the industrial age of America. His style is not one that I would normally be inspired by so this project was a bit out of my comfort zone. The first idea that came into my head was to make a gear as some of Baskin's work does relate to gears and other chain like objects. I used cardboard as my media seeing that I didn't have clay at home. It was unfortunate to not have the clay we were supposed to be using for this project as I'm sure this would have turned out different. I drew out the basic design I wanted for my gear and traced it onto the cardboard. I did this twice in order to make the two sides of the gear. Then I cut out 8 rectangles of cardboard to connect each spike of the gear and make the project 3D. After I hot glued everything together I decided to paint my project to make it look more like a gear/metal. Because I had space where you could see through my project, I painted the inside black to make it look more complete.
