Soft Slab Creations

At the start of this project we learned a new technique called soft slab technique. we were to flatten a piece of clay into a sheet. From this sheet we would cut a long rectangle out and then rap that around a cylinder. Then we would add a bottom using circle of flat clay. Once this creation hardened it was ready to become a cup. In total I made four cups and two plates. Two of the cups were required to have handles on them and those handle had to be functional. On my first mug I created a wide handle that had a divot to fit the curve of someone's fingers as they hold it. The second time I tried to get my handle thinner and the space wider to be able to fit more fingers in between the cup and the handle. The other two cup used the same process, but without the addition of a handle. I then started working on the plates. For the first plate I used a pre-made mold to get the shape I desired. While the clay was still wet and on the mold I decided that I wanted to add some texture to it. I did that by hitting the bottom of the plate with a sponge. It created a funky pattern that I liked. For the second plate I used a foam outline to create the shape and then added three small feet at the bottom to help it stand. All the glazes used are listed below.
