Recognition Characters
Bony scutes encase the body; has a triangular frontal profile; does not have spines in dorsal and pelvic fins; strong "horn-like" spines project forward over the eyes from the head; two sharp spines in front of anal fin.
Color
Grayish brown to yellow or blueish-green with prominent bright blue markings on the head and body; Can darken, lighten and change its color.

Flat reef areas and sand flats.
