Shell Length: 7-11 cm
Recognition Characters
Thick shell, early whorls are convex, axial ribs gradually become larger, more separate and knobbed at bluntly angled shoulder.
Color
Yellowish to chestnut-brown, often with pale spots or zigzag stripes, aperture purplish-brown and orange within, parietal wall has a brown to deep chestnut glaze.
Habitat & Depth
Sandy areas near marine grasses in shallow water.
Distribution at GRNMS
Common. Found on sandy bottoms adjacent to reef.
Geographic Range
North Carolina to Florida, and Gulf Coast to Texas and Mexico
