Recognition Characters
Pinnate branching in single planes. Branchlets are short, stiff, and widely spaced. Hard, rough calyces; each has a distinctive, long, sharp terminal spine.
Color
Branches are whitish to light gray or yellow-brown; polyps are yellowish brown.
Habitat & Depth
Attach to mixed sandy-hard bottom substrates. Found in clearer water reefs, moderate to deep fore reef environments to 40m.
