Recognition Characters

Spines form irregular ridges running longitudinally along the arms length. Arms gradually taper away from center, arm tips are blunt.

Color

Reddish orange to orangish yellow spines. Areas in between spines are bluish white.

Habitat & Depth

On rocky reefs and sand flats surrounding reef.

Distribution at GRNMS

Abundant.

Geographic Range

South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Gulf of Mexico, and Parts of Caribbean

Behavior & Notes

Occasional to common at GRNMS.
