Recognition Characters

Irregular fan-shaped colonies with regular pinnate branching in a single plain. Branches are stiff and may be somewhat enlarged at the tips. Hard, rough prickly calcyes, without terminal spikes, are openly spaced and protrude noticeably.

Color

Branches are brownish orange to orange or red. Polyps are translucent white.

Habitat & Depth

Attach to areas of hard bottom mixed with sand to 30m.

Occasional.
