Individual zooids: 1-1.5cm (1/4"-1/2") Colony height: reaching 0.3cm (0.1") Colonies width: reaching 10cm (4").
Recognition Characters
Encrusting, soft, transparent test. Zooids are not arranged in systems like Botryllus.
Color
In life, there is an area of light colored pigment that surrounds the branchial aperature. Colonies are white, greenish white, yellow, or salmon in color.
Habitat & Depth
Stones, algae, other ascidians from shallow water to 27 fathoms.
Distribution at GRNMS
Locally abundant when found.
Geographic Range
Bermuda, North Carolina, Florida
Behavior & Notes
Adult zooids range from 2.5mm to 4mm long and 1.3 to 1.8mm wide. Branchial sac w/o folds.
