Recognition Characters
Colony usually flattened mass, encrusting of small size, typically with 6 to 12 zooids. Surface of tunic is tough, slightly rough, and wrinkled. Position of zooids indicated by the pairs of rough, small papillae on which apertures are situated. Test is tough, leathery, and opaque.

Encrust hard substrates, especially rocks, pilings, and old shells. To 20m.

Occasional. Small colonies may be encountered encrusting rocks or old scallop shells.
