Recognition Characters
Encrusting. Can be multilaminate. Aperture is wide with square or rectangular lyrula (subopercular median tooth) at bottom of aperture. Avicularia commonly oval and proximo-lateral to the aperture.

Encrust hard substrates such as shells, rocks, and pilings.

Geographic Range
Western Atlantic south to Florida, Gulf of Mexico, and Bermuda
Behavior & Notes
Turns yellow in color when removed from water and allowed to dry.
