Recognition Characters
This barnacle can be recognized by its triangular shaped aperature and the longitudinal striations on the exterior of its shell, exterior of scuta has one or more longitudinal rows of pits.
Color
Shell wall usually has a purple background with fine white ridges.
Habitat & Depth
Occurs in almost all habitats including mangroves, seagrass beds, reefs, wrecks, and pilings. May be found to 3000m depth.
Distribution at GRNMS
Common. Encrust rocks and debris.
Geographic Range
Global. Has been Introduced in many locations worldwide. Originally discovered by Darwin along west coast of Americas. Found throughout Western Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico
