Recognition Characters
Two spiraled crowns of radioles, with double-horned operculum in between. Tubes are hidden with a single sharp spike protruding from edge of opening.
Color
Colors vary. Most frequently shades of brown, orange, maroon, and white.
Habitat & Depth
Ledges, rocky outcroppings and coral reefs. To 30m.
Distribution at GRNMS
Occasional. Found protruding from cracks or crevices in rock.

Georgia, Florida, Caribbean
Behavior & Notes
These are shy animals. They instantly retract crowns into tubes when disturbed. If diver waits motionless for several minutes crowns may slowly extend and reopen.
