Recognition Characters
Body and legs covered with thick coat of short pubescent hairs, leaving only small parts of fingers and tips of dactyls exposed. Carapace is longer than broad. Chelipeds are rather thick and heavy, carpus dentate with small teeth at anterior angle. Walking legs are rather slender, last pair turned forward over back and much longer than fourth pair.
Color
Variable. Differing shades of yellow green, olive, white, gray or red.
Habitat & Depth
Shallow to deeper reefs offshore. To 311m. This crab is usually found carrying a covering of compound ascidians, sponges, or zooanthid polyps.
Distribution at GRNMS
Rare. Found hidden underneath the tunicate, Eunstyela floridana.
Geographic Range
North Carolina south to Brazil. Caribbean , Bermuda, and Gulf of Mexico
