Recognition Characters
Blunt tentacles arranged in a single whorl numbering up to 20.
Color
Outer body is greenish-brown to gray, or grayish white. Tentacles are orangish-yellow to yellowish-brown. Oral disk is orange to orangish brown.
Habitat & Depth
Attach to a variety of sponges. To 30m.
Distribution at GRNMS
Abundant. Found on Microciona prolifera, Axinella waltonsmithi, Axinella bookhouti, and Clathria carteri.
Geographic Range
North Carolina south to the Caribbean. Gulf of Mexico
Behavior & Notes
Several species of Parazoanthus may be present at GRNMS.
